There are numerous things you need to remember when creating your first drape/hump mold piece. So here is the list:
1) You must wedge the clay you are running through the slab roller. It is necessary each time before beginning on a clay project that you wedge your clay.
2) The slab roller gets too moist when it is being used over and over. When this happens, the clay wants to stick to the surface. Lay a mat down under your clay. Smooth it out and also place a mat on top of it.
3) You need to "rib" both sides of your slab before you impress a texture into it. This helps in two ways. It increases the overall strength of your piece and it makes the surface smooth and even before your apply your texture.
4) Carefully drape the textured slab over the mold. You need to work gently lifting and pressing to get it to form around the mold. This is a very important step in the look of your finished piece.
5) If you feel unclear about the steps please rewatch the YouTube video from October 6th. Please feel free to google other videos of drape/hump slab construction.
